Dear Dr. Foster:
My 5 year old daughter developed JRA at age 2, and uveitis at age 3 1/2. She is currently fairly well controlled with Methotrexate. However, her 2 primary ocular flares occurred in December 2005 and December 2006, shortly after receiving the Flu vaccine. Coincidence? Perhaps. But I am concerned about the impact on her eyes that may result from receiving her 5 year DTP booster. A titer test showed she is not currently immune from whooping cough. Her rheumatologist believes the impact of the DTP on her immune system would probably be less than that of the Flu shot.
I would value your opinion on whether the DTP booster is likely to result in a uveitis flare. Thank you very much for any information you can provide.
Sincerely, MGS
