My daughter was diagnosed with JRA at 14 months old.
When she was about 3 she got uveitis. She is now 9 years old and still having an on going battle. I brought her to see you, DR. Foster where you gave a wonderful plan and suggested methotrexate. It worked for awhile quieting the inflammation.
Since then, we have moved and in between that moving she had not been seen by a rheum. and her optho. for quite sometime. She also became increasingly stubborn with the meth shots that at times she would lock herself in her room for hours this avoiding the shots.
She has now begun seeing a optho again and the doc was very concerned about all the inflamation. She suggested a uveitis specialist who my daughter saw this week and in turn he suggested kenalog injections into her eye. For some reason this just does seem right. Her surgery ( b/c she will be under anesthsia) will be the 19 of March.
I feel that somehow this can be avoided . Any suggestions and what are the pros and cons of this type of procedure?
She is losing alotof vision and therefore suffering in her school work and self esteem. My daughter is such a bright child and to see her handwriting and reading just fall behind really upset me. I live in South Carolina now, relativly close to Charlotte, NC and if you know or can suggest any specialist here to go to I'd appreciate it. Our closest Rhuem. is 3 hrs. away.
