Good morning Dr. Foster. My DD Amanda, now 14, diagnosed with JA at 18 mos, has battled uveitis off and on for about 11 years. She had cataract surgery in
Feb. 2000 and then a temporal goniotomy in May 2000. Her IOP was pretty good for quite a while but flared again last summer. In November 2008, she had a
gonitomy (other side) and she has still had increased IOP off and on. Post surgery, she had a significant amount of bleeding and it went to teh back of the
eye so it took awhile for us to get her eye clear again. She spiked again about a month ago - IOP was 40 - but came back down. We had gone to see the
pediatric opthamologist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, ON (we have a local opthamologist who monitors Amanda but sends her to the ped.
opthamologist when she gets into trouble) and the pressure came down again thankfully. I had discussed some options with the doc while we were there,
mentioning a trabeculectomy and she said it wasn't a good idea in afakic children. Vitreous fluid tends to leak out of the bleb. Our local
opthamologist found an article for me which says that they've had good results with a trab.
So what do you think -- would you know the success rate of trabs with afakia?
Thanks for the information!
Michelle
