Posts: 5 (03/02/08 10:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	my 8 year old daughter was diagnosed in October with chronic anterior uveitis in the left eye. since being diagnosed, she has been on metholtrexate 25mg injections weekly, prednisolone & cyclopentolate drops 4 times a day, and folic acid daily. just recently i was told that we are not getting the results that we expected from the metholtrexate, and her cateract has gotten more dence. her rheumatologist suggest that we change her medication to remicade or humira, and give her a steroid implant. I'm seeking out another opinion, any direction you can give me is appreciated

Posts: 2091 (03/03/08 10:04) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	60% of patients succeed with methotrexate; 40% fail. So, you're not alone. There's plenty else out there to rescue and cure the methotrexate failures. CellCept is one of my favorites. Remicade is good too, but it rarely induces a drug free remission, i.e., patients usually have to take it endlessly. The steroid implant is O.K. for the 2.5 years that it lasts, although cataract is guaranteed and glaucoma that requires surgery occurs in about 30% of patients with the implant. If the problem is in both eyes, then, you may be looking at 6 operations, 3 on each eye: implant; cataract; glaucoma. csf C. Stephen Foster, MD, FACS, FACR
