Hi Dr. Foster, My son who is nine has been on Methotrexate 17.5 mg orally since January for JIA and Uveitis. In the last few weeks he has developed a dry cough. I asked his rheumatologist if he thought it was from the MTX he said he didn't so but to see his PCP to rule out any other causes. The PCP thought he may have some post nasal drip. She didn't put him on anything at that time. A few days later I called back because the coughing was relentless. The PCP put him on Zithromax for three days. This finished last Thursday. Thursday and Friday the coughing stopped completly. I assumed that the Zpack fixed the problem. I gave him the MTX on Friday night and about 1 1/2
Hours later he started coughing and hasn't stopped. Do you think it is possible he is experiencing this from the MTX? I was thinking by The end of the week the dose would of been at its lowest. Isn't the MTX cumulative so the cough could of started after so many weeks on it? Thanks for your opinion.
